Glass Cat & Dog Doors

If your cat or dog needs their own way in and out, but the only way through is a glass ranch slider, window or exterior door, you can't just cut a hole in it. Our glaziers design, manufacture and install glass cat doors and glass dog doors that are custom-fitted to your door, without compromising the weatherproofing or safety rating.

Existing tempered and double-glazed glass can't be modified after it's made. Cutting into it can shatter the pane, and a sealed double-glazed unit can't be reopened once it's manufactured. So we measure your door, manufacture a new pane with the pet door opening built in, and fit it as a complete replacement. It's a bigger job than a hardware-store flap kit, but it's the only safe way to do it in glass.

Our glass coffee table exploded while we were at work. Because the table was glued to silver rounds other glass places did not want to touch the work. The staff member Mitzi was so helpful when I enquired and they found a solution, made to new top with an added suggestion of rounding the corners to help mitigate any future issues. She was amazing with her communication throughout the process. I would recommend with no hesitation, thank you again.

We had an emergency glass door breakage at our bach. I phoned Auckland Glass after hours on Saturday and they sent a glassier within 3 hours to our Piha property, and he was able to fit a temporary glass, making the place secure and weather proof and also cleaned up and took the broken glass away. They had to then order the lower pane which was a special ribbed glass, and were able to return and fit both glass, with putty. We had a booking starting the next day so you can imagine the relief. Great Service and workmanship, would highly recommend this company. Iain

Jarod was amazingly helpful to us. He listened, discussed solutions and researched options. Jarod followed up quickly and completed our glass order within our tight time frame. When it came time to pickup the glass Jarod assisted with loading and we worked together to arrange delivery options for the bigger items. Jarod is the man to see for superior customer service. Also a very nice guy. Very patient and accomodating. Thankyou Jarod Robert and Jos Adams

JUST SO YOU KNOW

Why you can't just cut a hole in your glass door

This is the question we get asked most. Existing safety glass and double glazed glass doors can't be cut or modified once they're made. A new pane has to be manufactured with the opening built in from the start.

  1. Toughened safety glass will shatter if cut. Tempered glass is designed to break into small, safe pieces under stress, including the stress of being cut. It can't be drilled or cut into after manufacture.
  2. Double glazing is a sealed unit. A double-glazed pane is manufactured and sealed as one unit. It can't be reopened or modified, so a new double-glazed unit is made with the pet door opening included.
  3. NZS 4223 governs safety glazing. Glass replaced in a door or low-level window in New Zealand must meet the NZS 4223 safety glazing standard, including glass with a pet door built in.
  4. Every install is done by a qualified glazier. From measuring through to final sign-off, our own glazing team handles the job. We don't subcontract it out.
Pet Door Options

Choose the flap that suits your pet

The glass and the flap are two separate decisions. Once we've sorted the glass, you choose how much control you want over who gets in, and what gets in with them.

  1. Standard flap: A simple push-through flap. The most affordable option, and right for most cats and small dogs.
  2. Microchip / RFID-activated: Opens only for your pet's registered chip, so next door's cat and local strays stay out.
  3. Lockable / four-way: Locked in, locked out, or open both ways. Handy if you want the flap shut overnight.

NEED TO KNOW

Pet Door FAQs

  • Yes. This is our core service. We replace the existing glass with a new, safety-glazed pane manufactured with the pet door opening built in, then fit and seal the flap in place.

  • Not by modifying the existing unit. A double-glazed pane is sealed and can't be reopened. We manufacture a new double-glazed unit with the opening already in place, so you keep the insulation and the seal.

  • It depends on the glass size, whether it's single or double glazed, and the flap you choose. The smallest, single glazed pet doors start from $350.

Most cat door installations cost from $450-900 depending on the type of glass and choice of flap (higher end for the more expensive chip activated pet doors).

Larger dog doors typically range from $600 to 1250. We have done some installations for really large dog doors, in double glazed units, which were in the $1500-2000 range.

Please contact us to discuss exactly what you need, and we can prepare a firm quote.

  • For a timber door, possibly, with the right DIY kit. For a glass door, no. Cutting into existing safety glass or double glazing will shatter the pane or break the seal. It needs a new pane manufactured and fitted by a qualified glazier.

  • For a timber door, yes. For glass, no. The existing pane is replaced with a new one that already has the opening built in, so nothing is cut on site.

  • It depends on what you need. A standard push-through flap suits most cats and small dogs. A microchip-activated flap keeps out other animals. A lockable four-way flap gives you control over when it opens. We'll match the flap to your pet at your free measure.

  • It can, depending on your policy and your insurer. We recommend checking with your insurance provider before installation, particularly if the door is an external entry point. Most insurers are fine with it once they're told.

  • Yes, with the right flap. For security you'll want a lockable or microchip-activated flap limits who can get in. And the glass around it needs to be manufactured to NZS 4223 safety standard, but that is true of wherever the pet door is located.

  • We install across all of the greater Auckland area, from the North Shore to South Auckland. See the service areas above, or call 0800 804 804 and we'll confirm your suburb.

  • Because it involves replacing the glass, it's a permanent change and needs your landlord's agreement. Assuming that pets are allowed in the first instance your landlord will probably be ok with it, but it is imperative that you seek permission first...otherwise you will be having some very awkward conversations later!
